Making a path required, and seeing it through
A requirement holds on four decisions: the population targeted, the deadline, the reminder cadence, and the person notified as the deadline approaches. All four are set once, and replayed at every campaign.
What a requirement carries
- The target population, designated by department, site, trade or contracting firm
- The deadline, set on an arrival date, a fixed date or a refresher anniversary
- The pass threshold of the assessment, known to the person before they start
- The reminder cadence and the manager notified as the deadline approaches
- The validity period, which reopens the path at the right time with no intervention
The life of a deadline
- 01
Assignment
The person receives their path, their deadline and the stated working time. A deadline known from the outset is met far more often than one discovered along the way.
- 02
Progress
Each completed sequence moves the bar, visible to the person and to their manager. This is when tracking helps most, because there is still time to act.
- 03
The reminder
It goes out before the deadline, not after. The manager receives the same information at the same time, which avoids the conversation where each discovers the other's lateness.
- 04
The refresher
On the validity date, the path reopens by itself with a new deadline. The next campaign therefore starts without anyone having to launch it.
What we advise making required
A requirement gains from staying rare: reserved for genuinely required topics, it keeps its weight and its completion rate becomes information again. The rest of the catalogue is offered, and taken by those it serves.
| Topic | Population | Recommended cadence |
|---|---|---|
| Safety induction | Every arrival, subcontractors included | On arrival, then at every change of site |
| Role-specific risk | Only the roles concerned | Before authorisation, then at each refresher |
| Digital hygiene | All employees | One short sequence, four times a year |
| Changed internal procedure | The functions that apply it | Within days of the change |
Questions about requirements
Is the completion rate enough to steer by?
It tells you how many people finished, which is useful. Actual working time and assessment results tell you what was learned. The dashboard shows all three side by side, because the gap between them is what teaches you something.
Can a deadline be moved for one person?
Yes, deadline by deadline, from the dashboard and without coming back to us. Leave, an assignment on another site, a mid-year arrival: the administrator moves the date for that person, the change is timestamped, and it appears in the audit export with its reason. That is what lets a mandatory path stay demanding while remaining workable.
